FABRICATIONS
Sawing/Material Selection (10/12/2024-16/12/2024)
The material are selected based on quality. We make sure that the metal used, wooden planks and others are up to standard and is viable for fabrication.
Sawing, often termed saw cutting, involves using a saw blade with sharp metallic teeth to segment material into desired shapes or more manageable pieces. Manufacturers mostly use two types: circular saw cutting and band saw cutting. In circular saw cutting, a rotating disc blade slices through the material, while band saw cutting uses a long, straight blade for continuous and even cutting.
First and foremost, before we start our fabrication, sawing or cutting is needed. As we measure the metal bar to the exact length needed, we saw the metal into several parts to ensure a more accurate and eases the other fabrication processes.

Fitting (10/12/2024-16/12/2024)
A process of assembling various parts manufactured in the machine shop. Before Sulam started, fitting is one of the fabrication techniques that we learned.
In Sulam, fitting was one of the first fabrication process that we conduct. After sawing/cutting is finish, fitting was next, to ensure a smooth edge and to make sure the edge is balanced.

Welding (17/12/2024-29/12/2024)
Arc welding: A welding process that is used to join metal to metal by using electricity to create enough heat to melt metal , and the melted metal, when cool , result in a binding of the metals
How do we connect metal parts together? Welding is the answer! Welding is one of if not the hardest fabrication to be done perfectly. The difference between a good wielding and a bad welding can be important to ensure the umpire longevity.

Grinding (18/12/2024-29/1/2024)
Grinding is an abrasive machining process that uses a grinding wheel or abrasive belt as the cutting tool. It is commonly used to remove material from a workpiece, to produce a smooth finish on the surface of the workpiece, or to remove burrs from the surface.
To ensure the umpire chair looking clean and smooth, grinding is required to remove the after effect of grinding.

Spray Painting and Hammering (30/12/2024-5/1/2025)
Spray painting is performed by using compressed air to atomize the electrode solution and direct them towards the substrate which can be placed on a flat stand or a roller for a continuous process. It uses different types of nozzles to spray the required size, shape, and pattern of the electrode material.
As we approach the end of our fabrication, finishing our product with spray paint is to enhance it visually. Instead of a boring plain and uninteresting, might as well give it blue in colour. Furthermore, the addition of colour to our product makes it feels more complete and welcoming, especially for the user of the umpire chair.
